I’m a sucker for developmental football leagues, so I’m watching. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s on CBS right now. We’re seeing the San Antonio Commanders hosting the San Diego Fleet, and I just watched San Diego QB Mike Bercovici get decleated by someone. His helmet went flying .

I doubt it’ll be high-quality football, but there’s a desperate need to develop QBs and offensive linemen in particular.

It was like watching the bills and the c ardinals. Painful. I know it’s early and the first game but damn

They actually had it on the tv where i was eating dinner.

Im interested to see how this plays out. 5th round talent and a hunger to get that payday on a short schedule could be much more entertaining than the big leagues

I had totally forgotten about this. Thanks! I fully intend to give this a real shot.

It’s picked up a bit in the second quarter. The San Diego running back seems to be pretty good, but then Bercovici threw a pick near the goal line that  got returned about sixty yards.

If you missed the first quarter you didn't miss much, but there's been more action since then. I think there's potential here. It's better than the first XFL game I watched for sure.

Wonder if it is coincidence that the NFL network is running a block of Super Bowl games, but that may just be my tinfoil hat talking.

I am not watching, though I hear Martz is coaching the fleet?

I am. Got the Orlando-Atlanta game where I live. Been a decent game so far. Got to see the first points, touchdown, and challenge for the league which is pretty cool. Even got to see a damn well played Philly special.

It's definitely not NFL caliber, but I do like some of the rule differences. Not terrible so far.

Nah, I’m burned out on football. I don’t really like the idea of spring ball. Baseball season is right around the corner, and I’ll watch hockey until then. Enjoy!

Yep, he is. They're not exactly lighting it up, but the halftime score was 6-6 which means there was 4x as many points as the first half of the Super Bowl.

When I was in high school I watched the first couple seasons of the World League and liked it, so I'm used to the idea of spring football. I don't really watch any other sports so I'll take what I can get.

Did you see the replay of the sack I was talking about? It was one of those plays that make you say DAMN. I can't believe he didn't end up with a concussion, but he didn't even look hurt after the play so I guess he's good.

Actually I think NFL Network is airing some of the games. They want them to succeed because it solves their problem of not having a farm system.

Isn’t college football a free, publicly subsidized  farm system?

A friend of mine has a younger brother playing for the Fleet, so I tuned in and saw his interception at the end of the first half.

Somewhat, but so many colleges don’t have pro-style offenses. There’s been a huge shortage of quarterbacks and offensive linemen in particular coming into the league . I think Goodell made a huge mistake in closing NFL Europe.

I’m surprised to see how many fans showed up in San Antonio. There’s two decks of stands and the top deck is empty, but the lower deck looks pretty full.

After watching that turd  of a super bowl, I’m not sure if I’ll be in the mood to watch any football by the time the NFL season kicks off in the fall, let alone watch football now.

I recall watching the USFL back in the day - was that maybe a spring league, too? I think it was (?)

Baseball has always been my first love, and I never played football, so spring means baseball to me (and Stanley Cup playoffs).

Yep, it was. I never got to see the USFL since I became a football fan right around the time that it ended.

totally forgot, I wanted to watch it. Any football is better than no football...hell, I’d watch flag and think the pro bowl should be a flag game. The NFL sanctions flag leagues across the country and I think it’d be smart to give some validity to it . It certainly could introduce more fans and potentially players. But I wouldn’t go for that XFL shit. I at least want it to be serious.

I’m hoping it sticks and becomes a good developmental league. M ore importantly we could see faster implementation of rule changes that benefit the game. I’m eager to see how the eye in the sky ref thing works as that’d be my solution to blown calls.

There’s a couple more games today that will be aired on CBS Sports Network, if you have that. I was thinking of getting CBS All Access for a trial to watch Star Trek: Discovery and it sounds like they’re streaming some games there too.

The game I watched started kind of blah, and the QBs are definitely rough around the edges, but the end of the game was pretty good. Sounds like the other one was a blowout.
